A bent
shaft really makes for a bad day, isn't boating fun? well
its happened to me and at some point and time it will happen to you.
I remember what started out as a great day to be on the water
when at about ten knots everything went silent, now
silent means no engine noise, as though someone turned the
ignition switch off.... Well after being towed in by one of my
customers and having the boat hauled (31 ft sport fishing boat)
to my surprise, we found a blue tarp wrapped around the shaft
and propeller. Who would ever think a tarp would stall the engine and in
the process bend a one and a half inch stainless
shaft forty eight thousands out.
A word of caution about eyeballing the shaft with a straight edge
or just turning it while its still in the boat, the bend can be further
up the shaft, maybe in the coupling area as a twist in the shaft may not
be as obvious as a bend.
